The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an independent humanitarian organization whose mandate is to provide protection and assistance for victims of armed conflict and internal disturbances, has vacancies for

Main Objective
Nutritionists are responsible of ensuring nutrition input when/where relevant and implementing and supervising nutrition programmes in the field. This in compliance with ICRC's and national protocols/guidelines, and in collaboration with local partners.
The panel of activities in a nutrition program include:

Overall Situation Analysis

• To analyze the livelihood and nutritional situation of populations of ICRC concern while putting this in perspective to the country/region.
• To provide with the elements/practical recommendations to orient the Assistance/ICRC programme's policy and strategy


• To facilitate and support the design and implementation of nutrition assessments, baseline assessments, nutrition surveys, monitoring and surveillance.

Nutrition Interventions

• To facilitate, design an implement strategies to prevent and treat acute malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies: General food distributions, blanket distributions, supplementary and therapeutic feeding distribution (either in PHC, Hospitals, detention places, open environments, etc)
• To evaluate both the impact of nutrition/economic security interventions and changes in population environment/livelihood and to adapt the programs accordingly
• Technical input for health and economic security related programs (cash, grants, Micro Economic Initiatives, Agro and veterinarian programs, etc)
Emergency preparedness and response

• To provide with nutrition information, tools and when required; to participate in the immediate response to critical situations
• To review and adapt nutrition input/interventions in emergency response

Other issues

• Contribute to the development of ICRC/Economic Security strategies & policies
• Represents the ICRC at nutrition related forums
• Capacity building of local partners
• Organize/participate in internal/external workshops and seminars.
• Design and participate in research projects
Selection requirements
• Ideal age: 25 to 35
• Prepared to accept unaccompanied postings during the first 24 months of collaboration
• Nutritionist, nurse or medical doctor
• University degree in the fields of nutrition, public health or related subject
• Minimum of 3 years professional experience in one of the above mentioned field
• Humanitarian field experience is a must as well as emergency response
• Excellent command of French and English - Arabic, Spanish, Russian an asset
• Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet software and basic nutrition programmes
• Driving license (must cover manual transmission – a license for automatic-transmission vehicles only is not sufficient)
General Skills
• Strongly motivated by humanitarian work
• Open-minded and adaptable, empathic and diplomatic
• Neat appearance, good speaker, well-developed writing and summarizing skills
• Able to work in a team, under pressure in a dangerous environment
• Ability to take relevant decisions within a given framework
Minimum length of assignment : 12 months
