TITLE: Nutrition Programme Coordinator- South Sudan Country Office TEAM/PROGRAMME: PDQ/Nutrition LOCATION: Bor, GRADE: 4 CONTRACT LENGTH: 6 Months (with possibility of extension) ROLE PURPOSE: To provide overall leadership for nutrition activities in Jonglei state, South Sudan. This role will support the country-level Nutrition Managers to ensure quality and efficient implementation of the Nutrition Projects in three counties of Jonglei State. He/She will directly support the implementing partners, counties CHD, State Ministry of Health in coordination, planning, monitoring, data collection/management and reporting of nutrition activities in Bor Akobo and Nyirol counties of Jonglei State South Sudan. Liaison with other nutrition stake holders in the counties, enhance integration with other sectors where Save the Children is working, manage the sub-grantee and MOUs with respective line ministries and partners, ensure implementation of emergency nutrition interventions. SCOPE OF ROLE: Reports to: Area Manager with technical support from Nutrition Advisor / country-level Nutrition Managers Dimensions: Through its years of operations in South Sudan, Save the Children’s nutrition programmes have significantly improved the nutrition status of women, children and their families and have recorded significant gains in expanding nutrition programme coverage and responsiveness. Currently, through multiple funding sources, Save the children supports 11 counties with community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) and plans to extend CMAM throughout the Save the children-support network of primary health care facilities. Number of direct reports: Nutrition Managers. KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY : Responsibilities will include ensuring timely implementation of nutrition grants, capacity building and training of programme staff, coordination at sector level, and overall implementation to the programme operations including work planning, procurement planning, project documentation, monitoring and supervision. • Ensure quality nutrition programme delivery in Jonglei state • Joint supportive supervision and Monitoring the implementation of nutrition programs as per approved South Sudan protocols (IMSAM and MAM package) through field visits to Out-patient Therapeutic Care (OTP), Stabilization Centre (SC), Target Supplementary Feeding Programs (TSFP), BSFP and Community mobilizations. • Ensure databases for nutrition are maintained and updated monthly by all counties e.g. The DHIS. • Ensure that IYCF M2M support groups are established in all locations through local authority engagement, training of IYCF facilitators and groups are well supported and guided. • In consultation with partners and MOH at State level develop training modules and presentations for different components of the IMSAM/MAM guideline as well as different levels of trainees. • Organise and Conduct nutrition trainings in the County and state ensure that data base for staff trained are kept in the SMOH and shared with stakeholders. • Compile training reports, share with relevant stakeholders and ensure copies are kept in a file at the SMOH. • Provide more support for provision of training to MOH staff (nurses, clinical staff) in Management of acute malnutrition. • Provide coaching/mentoring /on the job training for National Nutrition Programme Managers. • Develop the Donor reports for the entire response. • Coordinate cluster reporting, review and provide feedback on the cluster reports the three counties including recommendations and share with the relevant stakeholders at the state. • Ensure through working with the partners that planning and coordination of county level SMART nutrition surveys are done timely. Areas with gaps are identified early and communicated to SMOH & the nutrition cluster • Ensure quality nutrition surveys (SMART & rapid assessments) and provide technical support and supervision, Coverage survey, KAP assessments to the managers. • Coordinate and Participate in the multi-agency assessments and evaluation in the three counties. • Ensure active participation to the state nutrition cluster meeting and Counties coordination forums • Work closely with the State nutrition cluster to ensure a nutrition contingency plan are developed, organize and actively participates in cluster meetings and together with the State cluster focal points coordinate timely nutrition response in any emergency within the state. • The Coordinator will ensure that all project activities are in line with the donor’s policies, guidelines and standards. • Coordinate with Supply chain, WFP, UNICEF and ensure timely, proper and quality nutrition supplies, drugs and equipment in nutrition programs. • Ensure Monthly WFP and UNICEF supplies reporting are done, reviewed and submitted. • Provide regular feedback to partners at SMOH on the nutrition situation in the county (host community, IDPs and returnees), and ensure appropriate action is taken • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual nutrition report for the county including recommendations and share with the relevant stakeholders. • SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS (SCI Values in Practice) Accountability: • holds self accountable for making decisions, managing resources efficiently, achieving and role modelling Save the Children values • holds the team and partners accountable to deliver on their responsibilities providing the necessary development to improve performance and applying appropriate consequences when results are not achieved Ambition: • sets ambitious and challenging goals for themselves and their team, takes responsibility for their own personal development and encourages their team to do the same • widely shares their personal vision for Save the Children, engages and motivates others Collaboration: • builds and maintains effective relationships, with staff, colleagues and partners Creativity: • develops and encourages new and innovative solutions Integrity: • honest, encourages openness and transparency • demonstrates highest levels of integrity QUALIFICATIONS • University Degree in Nutrition, Nutritional health or Dietetics related field. EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS Essential • Minimum of 4 years experience in community-based nutrition programming and 3 years in Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM). 2 to 3 years management experience in an INGO environment, including experience directing and implementing programs for Nutrition in emergency contexts • Good trainer, facilitator and supervisor • Excellent spoken and written English. • Experience of living and working under difficult and challenging environments. • Ability to design and implement capacity building plans and initiatives for staff and partners • Strong communication, interpersonal, representation and negotiation skills • Strong report writing and budgeting management skills • Demonstrable commitment to humanitarian principles and accountability frameworks • Ability to analyze nutrition information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically • Experience of working in an emergency setting Desirable • Experience working in South Sudan To apply, please send a CV and cover letter to Jane King'ara,
