Role & Responsibilities
Assist in the direct implementation of nutrition interventions which may include screening, treatment of severe acute malnutrition, moderate acute malnutrition, or provision of blanket supplementary feeding. Provide supervision and training to local staff to allow them to implement the programmes. Health and Nutrition managers are also in charge of writing reports and keeping good data records, assist with ensuring adequate stocks, providing training to local staff as needed, monitoring the overall health and nutrition situation and observing for potential outbreaks.

Multi-sector emergency response programme including provision of emergency health, nutrition, wash, and NFI/Shelter services for vulnerable populations in South Sudan.

Key Activity Areas
Health & Nutrition Management
• Be responsible for the implementation, management and supervision of the assigned health and nutrition field interventions in line with applicable national and international guidelines and standards.
• Conduct regular supervision in clinics and other health and nutrition facilities.
• Provide training for local staff in line with the appropriate international and South Sudan guidelines.
• Implement participatory Behaviour Change Communication methods in health and nutrition project.
• Carry out assessments in targeted locations with newly identified emergency needs.
• Ensure regular monitoring and evaluation of intervention implementation.
• Provide input into the integration of beneficiary participation and accountability.
• Oversee the process of data collection to meet the requirements set by Medair and external partners.
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities for internal and external reports.
• Input into the development of the country strategy, new projects and donor proposals.

Staff Management
• Assist the Project Manager and Nutrition Manager to manage and oversee the assigned local nutrition team including recruitment, day-to-day management, development and training, appraisals, etc.
• Facilitate regular team meetings, reviewing team and individual objectives, ensuring team members are kept informed of issues relevant to their work and providing an opportunity for feedback.
• Ensure the team members receive relevant supervision, coaching, mentoring and training.
• Promote the health and security of the team by ensuring the application of security guidelines.

Financial Management
• Work with the Project Manager and Nutrition Team Leader to manage finances within the field location
• Coordinate petty cash requirements of the intervention team, ensuring all required paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner.

Communication & Coordination
• Maintain appropriate, regular and transparent communication structures with the assigned team.
• Represent Medair at relevant coordination meetings involving local authorities, UN agencies and NGOs.

• Manage the correct and timely ordering of needed stocks and supplies to the field location and ensure proper records are in place.
• Monitor expiration dates of all stocks in the field location to ensure timely use.

Quality Management
• Promote and use the Medair intranet and other operating procedures.
• Implement relevant policies and standards relating to health service delivery including Sphere and HAP standards, Ministry of Health and donor guidelines.
• Participate in Medair workshops and distance learning sessions to keep up with changing trends.

• Clinical degree or diploma: Nurse/medical professional experience.

• Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written)

Experience / Competencies
• 2 years post-qualification nursing / medical professional experience.
• Experience working in a health and nutrition programme in a developing country, preferably in a humanitarian context.
• Ability and willingness to manage project implementation.
• Able to develop and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, beneficiaries, other agencies and local authorities.
• Able to set clear objectives for staff and to delegate.
• Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels.
• Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner.
• Team-player with good inter-personal skills.

Profiles sought for Internationally Recruited Staff (IRS) roles in the field
Relief experience
• Professionals with 12 months or more relevant relief or development experience (Experienced Relief Workers).
• Professionals with less than 12 months relevant relief or development experience (New Relief Workers).
• Experienced professionals in a relevant Medair sector of expertise.
• Overseas intercultural experience.

Personal qualities
• Able to live and work in a multicultural team under difficult conditions.

• A salary based upon the grade of the position and experience of the position-holder, starting from USD 1,700 per month.
