We are looking for an experienced individual to join our Humanitarian Surge Team (HST) as Nutrition Adviser and play a key part in our humanitarian department by helping us to respond effectively to emergencies world-wide.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As Nutrition Adviser HST) you will be deployed to the field as the lead adviser in a small to medium-scale emergency or filling a gap for a senior advisory role in a chronic humanitarian country programme, you will carry out short-term assessment, programme design, capacity analysis or monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities. In addition you will:
•Work with the deputy Team Leader – Programmes or Team Leader to develop Nutrition sector response plans and master budgets and contribute to Save the Children’s overall response strategy
•Prepare and oversee Nutrition programme implementation to ensure timely delivery of programme activities
•Prepare timely programme and donor reports on project activities in compliance with internal requirements and any relevant external donor requirements
•Identify Nutrition programme supplies needs and coordinate with the logistics team to put in place a sensible phased procurement plan
•Work closely with the M&E team to put in place a sector plan, ensuring this links to reporting requirements, and capacity build technical field staff in carrying out the work.

To be successful you will have experience of leading nutritional response in an emergency and you must also be comfortable in and adaptable to challenging and complex environments. In addition you must have:
•A Masters level in Public Health Nutrition, or a related subject, or equivalent field experience
•Previous experience of first phase international emergency humanitarian response
•Demonstrable monitoring and evaluation skills with the ability to work both in an advisory and a hands on implementation capacity
•Experience of preparing successful funding proposals for donors
•Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach staff in Nutrition technical skills.

Fluency in French is desirable.

All members of our HST team are available and ready to be deployed anywhere in the world at short notice. You will normally work unusual hours, undertake a lot of travel (up to 80% of the time) and will often work in stressful and insecure environments.

In return, you will receive 35 days Annual Leave per year, medical insurance while on deployment, travel and accommodation provided for, paid R&R, gross salary paid from UK plus hardship allowance, complexity allowance and expensive posting allowance where applicable.

At Save the Children our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
