I'm sorry if this has been discussed in the past. I was asked how much it costs on average to treat a child for SAM. I am not satisfied with what I found doing some internet research and I was wondering if anybody has a good estimate. Thank you in advance!

N.B the questionner is aware of the CMAM tool announced in a previous discussion, http://www.en-net.org.uk/question/361.aspx but is looking for an average cost if this has been estimated

I'm not going to answer the question. I'll answer a different (related) one ... The costs per DALY of CMAM programs ranges between about US$20 and US$50. That is very cheap. Knowing cost without knowing what is being purchased is not very meaningful. The DALY is the standard unit of health purchase.

Hi

Find SAM treatment cost see estimates from different countries in the document found in the link : Scaling Up Nutrition,What Will It Cost? (Check Annex 4 & Table 10)

http://siteresources.worldbank.org/HEALTHNUTRITIONANDPOPULATION/Resources/Peer-Reviewed-Publications/ScalingUpNutrition.pdf

For DALY useful publications:
