Save the Children is committed to providing support for some of the most vulnerable people in the world, especially children. We are working to ensure that children grow up to reach their physical and mental potential, free from hunger and undernutrition. As a “dual mandate” organisation (working for development and humanitarian purposes) undertaking multi-sector programming, research and advocacy for policy change, we are extremely well placed to impact on the wellbeing and survival of children. We have a huge sense of pride in what we do but we need to increase our capacity in order to meet our ambitions and ensure the health and survival of even more children. That is why we are looking for talented nutritionists to join our global team.

We are currently recruiting the following positions:

- Emergency Response Personnel Nutrition Advisor – a global role (in Save the Children UK’s Humanitarian Department)

- West and Central Africa Regional Nutrition Advisor – based in Dakar, Senegal, or somewhere else in West Africa or another location to be negotiated (in Save the Children UK’s Programme Policy and Quality Department).

- Nutrition Advisor – based in Niger (working for Save the Children International)

Short descriptions of these positions are set out below. Please apply on-line if you are interested or forward this information to others that you think may be interested.

Emergency Response Personnel - Nutrition Advisor: ‘ERPs’ as we call them are critical to the work that we do and are very much part of the Humanitarian Nutrition Team. They are primarily based in the field to support country programmes. For example, they may be the lead technical adviser in a small or medium-sized emergency or the 2nd phase of large emergency. Alternatively they may be deployed as a field level technical coordinator in a complex, large-scale emergency. On occasion they may also be asked to gap fill a senior technical advisory role in a longer term humanitarian country programme. It is a challenging but interesting role and are expected to lead on sectoral assessment, programme design and master budgeting, coordination, capacity building, as well as supporting fundraising, recruitment and procurement. We are looking for experienced technical staff who wish to use their knowledge and skills but also want to learn new skills and work in a dynamic, ambitious team.

Nutrition Advisor– Niger: Another exciting opportunity to provide in country technical advice will be advertised shortly for the Niger country programme.

Save the Children is looking for a dynamic and experienced nutrition advisor early January 2013 for its programming in Niamey. In a challenging environment, you will provide technical support to the nutrition programming and contribute in defining the nutrition strategy of Save the Children, in a context where humanitarian needs are acute. You will spend some time mentoring and increasing the skills of the nutrition team and disseminating best practices from regional and national experiences.

Be ready for a rewarding and learning experience in a country where resilience is more and more debated and prevalence of acute malnutrition is chronically above the thresholds of emergency – calling for innovative and pilot solutions.
