GOAL is an international humanitarian organisation founded in 1977 and is now operational in 19 countries across Latin America, Africa and Asia, supporting development, recovery and humanitarian programs within three sectors: Food Security and Livelihoods, Protection, and Health (including WASH and Nutrition).
GOAL’s health programmes are guided by GOAL Global Strategy and GOAL’s Health Strategic Plan and has a total of five thematic areas: Maternal and Child Health, including sexual and reproductive health, Health System Strengthening, WASH and Nutrition. GOAL’s health programmes are implemented in various different context across the world, sudden onset emergencies, protracted conflicts, fragile states and other low income countries. During this strategic period there has been an increased focus on developing and adapting approaches that allow GOAL’s development health programme’s to focus on challenging and addressing the structural, attitudinal and cultural barriers to the adoption of positive behaviours, health utilisation and health provision. There has also been an increase in GOAL’s response to humanitarian health crisis over the last two years which has seen a considerable increase the overall global health budget to support recovery and development health programmes and the establishment of an emergency medical team based out of London.
